Normally potential buyers use Aalmar’s services. However, there have been a few occasions recently when a vessel was offered for sale complete with an Aalmar Survey report. On one occasion the vessel was in a difficult position for access and the sellers arranged for Aalmar to attend to carry out the inspection and then directed potential buyers to us for a copy of the report.

On the other occasion the vessel was obviously going to be very popular and to avoid having 20 or 30 surveyors disrupt the normal ship operations the seller arranged for Aalmar Surveys to carry out a complete inspection and then directed the potential buyers to us for an initial report.

Obviously in these circumstances a much reduced price is charged for the report and photographs.

It is interesting to note that in England the Government is proposing that in the future sellers of private property must carry out a survey which will be made available to purchasers. Will this become the norm in shipping?
